Welcome Players & Parents
America's Showcase will take place from April 20st – 24th, 2023, in St. Louis, MO. The MHSHL Team Midwest staff is honored to have the opportunity to be involved with the top High School players in the MHSHL. We feel that America's High School Showcase offers players a great opportunity to be exposed to Junior, College and Professional Scouts from throughout the USA and the honor to represent the Midwest in the best High School Hockey event in North America.
It is very important that all players trying out for this team understand the requirements and the commitment they are expected to make. With the short amount of time MHSHL must put this Team together, it is to each player's benefit to cooperate with the Coaching Staff. We would like all players to understand the following points
Tryouts —Try outs are March 11th and 19t at the Ames Ice Arena. You only need to attend one day to be considered. The try out fee is $75. Only 4 players from 1 team can be selected, this includes goaltenders. THIS IS A SHOWCASE RULE. We must have a minimum of 18 skaters and 2 goalies with a maximum roster of 25. All players must have played 50% of their games for the season on a MWAHA team. For example: we can take 3 skaters from the KC Jets and a Jets goalie. We could also take a KC Stars skater or goalie.
Commitment — If you are selected to be on the team, practice will be held at the Ames Ice Arena (1507 Gateway Hills Park, Ames, IA 50014) on the following dates:
March 25 - 4:15-6:15 pm
March 26 - 8:00-10:00 am
April 1 - 4:15-6:15 pm
April 2 - 8:00-10:00 am
April 15 - 4:15-6:15 pm
April 16 - 8:00-10:00 am
All commitments to your current team will be over by then (unless your team is participating in the USA Hockey National Championships). It will be impossible to put this team together and make us all proud of our effort without the commitment of each player for the few weeks preceding the America's High School Showcase event. Your commitment during this time is required.
This year we are including a Girls Team Midwest to the tournament and will be sharing transportation with the girls team to St. Louis. The teams will be traveling to St. Louis on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023, and returning sometime Monday, April 24h, depending on how we finish.
We contracted with CIT Charters and Navigator to run two buses. Navigator will depart out of Omaha and make a stop in west Des Moines and eastern Kansas City to pick up players for both teams before traveling to St. Louis. The CIT bus will depart from Davenport, Iowa and go directly to the St. Louis. Once we are in St. Louis the buses will become a boys team bus and a girls team bus because while the teams play at the same rink, they stay at separate hotels. Players are welcome to leave with their families after the tournament, but the buses will be returning on the same routes back to Omaha and Davenport. Last year the coaches required everyone to travel to the tournament together to encourage team bonding.
Team Fees – If you are chosen to play for Team Midwest Showcase, on the day of tryouts March 19 you will need to have a $1200 check or money order made out to: Team Midwest. If you come to the March 11 date, we will work with you to get the payment as soon as possible from you. We will also accept Venmo payments this year. This money covers Bus, Hotel, Ice time, Warm-ups, Team Apparel, Jerseys/socks, Food, Snacks, Showcase Fees, etc. The only money a player would need to bring to the showcase, would be for personal items or gifts. Our team is supported financially by the Midwest Affiliate.
